Vanagon/T25 Speedometer Board

Who doesn't know it?

/user/pages/02.t3-tachoplatine/02._intro/5.jpg

The speedometer in my beloved bus is spinning again...

The speedometer light no longer works properly and only ever flickers. One moment the fuel gauge is working and the next the tank is suddenly empty. The temperature display no longer zaps or the LEDs only work when the weather is right.

In most cases, this is due to a defective speedometer film. This consists of a film with several layers and the conductor tracks are then applied between them. Even if you have never touched the film, the layers may gradually become detached from each other. If you then have to touch the film at some point, it may fall apart completely. In some cases, the normal thermal and mechanical stress in the cockpit can cause it to fall apart beforehand.

Everything inside

Everything in one product.

The kit contains everything you need to replace the old film.

The kit contains everything you need for the conversion. But everyone should have a screwdriver in the house.

Apart from a suitable screwdriver, no other tools are required. Not even a soldering iron.

Nevertheless, I don't want to claim that even a 3-year-old can do the installation. You should have a little understanding of automotive engineering.

Gasoline or Diesel

No matter whether diesel or gasoline. The speedometer circuit board has the slot for the diesel pre-glow control and this LED is also included in the set.

The LED is controlled by the pre-glow system in the engine compartment via a separate cable.

With a petrol engine, this LED is simply omitted. That's how VW did it back then.

Model year before '84 or after '85

With the model year change in summer 1984, a number of improvements were also introduced.

For example, the entire electrical system was replaced and the instrument cluster was given a few new features, such as a DZM and the dynamic oil pressure control.

As a result, the connector on the instrument cluster has also been completely changed.

The speedometer circuit board has an adapter between the actual circuit board and the connector for the instrument cluster. All model years can therefore be covered simply by using a different connector.

However, pay attention to your model year when ordering. This is not the year of manufacture!

Yellow high beam indicator

A blue LED was never used for the high beam indicator on the T3. This was only developed in 1993 by the Japanese Shuji Nakamura.

As there was no blue LED at the time, VW simply obtained a temporary exemption for an amber high beam control in order to be able to install an LED there too.

If you have an amber high beam headlight control, this is normally also registered in the documents.

There is also a suitable kit for this variant. This is made to customer specifications.

Vanagon with OXS

The lambda sensor must be replaced after 30k miles. That was the CARB requirement in California at the time. So that you don't forget this, there was a mileage counter that ensured that the OXS LED lit up after 30k miles.

This LED was only available in the Vanagon export models, which were exported to the USA.

Since there were no diesel engines in the Vanagon program at that time, VW simply used the diesel LED and labeled it OXS.

You can therefore simply use the diesel LED or a matching red LED. These are available as an add-on in my store.

Dokumentation

Documentation and assistance In any case, there is detailed documentation. And this can even be viewed online.
